Classifying materials

Yesterday in science we were classifying the different materials that year 2 bought in for their homework. We sorted them into metal,  plastic, wood, paper and cloth. Below is a picture of us classifying our materials.

Super Sequences!

Today in maths we've been looking at how to complete sequences!

Some of us completed number sequences for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables while others of us created our own colour and object repeating patterns.

Here are some pictures of our colour and object repeating patterns.

Mental maths

Once a week in maths we focus on mental maths. We play games that support us with our learning of mental addition and subtraction. Some of us were also working on our times tables. Here are some photos of us working in groups to build on our mental maths.

We went on a materials hunt!

We went on a hunt outside to try and find as many objects made from different materials! we worked in groups to try and find objects made from:  wood, plastic, metal, glass and clay.

Here are some photos of us on our materials hunt.

Hungry Crocodile maths!

In maths today we have been ordering numbers. We can use these mathematical symbols to show which number is bigger:  <  >.

They look a little like crocodile mouths don't they? We then realised that when we used the symbol it looked like the crocodile was eating the biggest number! That's the saying we used to help us with our maths!

'The crocodile always eats the biggest number!'

We are building up towards designing a Christmas card!

Super Science!

Our topic for science this half term is 'Materials'. Today we experimented with different materials. We tested if different materials would float or sink. We also investigated if materials were heavy or light.

Number!

Welcome back!

This week we have been focusing on number recognition as well as addition. We have been learning through practical experiences! Here are some photos of us learning!
