Capacity!

In maths our current topic is measures and this week we are focusing on capacity.
Capacity is when we are measuring liquids such as water.
Today we explored different capacity containers. We discussed and estimated how many of one container would fit into another.

We learnt that big containers could be measured in litres and small containers could be measured in millilitres.  Did you know a teaspoon holds just 5mls?!

Here are some photos of our learning.

Drama Workshop

Yesterday, we were really lucky to have our second drama workshop with Sophia! We did lots of funny and exciting warm ups to get our bodies and voices ready for learning a poem.

We learnt a poem all about someone wanting to be a dinosaur! We learnt actions to help us remember the lines!

We had such a fantastic time, thank you for organising it Mrs. Lilley!

Super Science day!

Yesterday we held our second Super Science Day!

We tested the effectiveness of washing up liquid on fatty milk and tried and created our own optical illusions 'Bird in a cage'

We also had a workshop with Anne from Sam's Simple Science.
We created our own mixed colour patterns on cloth using pens and a special liquid to help it spread. We created our own layered liquid bottles and had excellent fun making our own elephant toothpaste!
We had a terrific day and asked lots of interesting and exciting questions.
An award for the most inquisitive scientist went to a child in every year group. Our awards went to Harrison in year 1 and Jamie in year 2.

Here are some photos of our excellent day.

Here we were testing the effectiveness of washing up liquid on milk. We had a tray of milk then used syringes to drop little droplets of food colouring in the milk. We then used pippets to drop in washing up liquid - the washing up liquid pushed the food colouring around the milk to
 try and 'wash' it away.

It didn't work well with double cream.

Next, we used cloth and pens to create beautiful colour patterns. We used the pens and drew a dotted circle in the middle of our cloth. We then dropped in tiny amounts of special liquid to make the pen marks spread. Here are some of our beautiful patterns.

We then used household liquids to create a layered bottle. You have to layer them in a specific order for it to work! We tried to guess the liquids first but some of them were tricky.

Our last experiment with Anne was creating elephant toothpaste! Its created when a chemical reaction happens between liquids.
We were very excited!!

Multiplying using arrays

Today in maths we were learning to use arrays to help us multiply.
We used practical resources to make our arrays and then we tried counting out our answers in 2s.

Here are some photos of our learning.
