Well done Lexi!

Yesterday, in Celebration assembly Lexi shared her newest achievement.

Lexi attends Rainbows and while there another child hurt themselves. Lexi was very caring and helped the child. This was noticed by the leader at Rainbows who then awarded Lexi with being able to take a very special doll called Olivia home.

We are very proud of Lexi for showing such great care! Well done!

I'm okay, I'm fantastic!

For English we have been studying list poems. Last week you saw some of our fabulous 'Leaves are...' poems. this week we have been writing them all about ourselves.

Our poems are about thing we are 'okay' at and things we are 'brilliant' at.

We linked our learning with PSHE, discussing what we thought we were exceptional at.

Ollie 'I'm exceptional at basketball'

Fenella 'I'm extraordinary at roller skating!'

Lucy 'I'm a terrific footballer'

We then Wrote our list poems. Below is Charlie, Rowan and Jayden's list poem. They worked extremely well independently and focused on the synonyms to use instead of good!

Well done boys!

Favourite fruit!

Yesterday, in maths, we  were collecting data to try and find out which fruit children in year 1 and 2 preferred.

The options were Apple, Banana, Satsuma, Strawberry and Cherry.

We asked everyone what their favourite fruit was and created a class tally on the whiteboard.

Then, we each created our own pictogram to share our data.

Overall, Strawberries were the most popular fruit.

Seeds in science

In Science we are studying plants with a focus on seeds and bulbs.

Today we were following a line of enquiry.

We were looking for a pattern in our fruit. Do all big fruit have big seeds and do all little fruits have little seeds?  This is one of our Scientific enquiry skills. 'Pattern seeking and surveys'.

We discussed our thoughts in talk partners before cutting the fruit open. We were amazed at the tiny seeds inside a kiwi. It felt hard, so we thought there would be a big stone! Cherries also surprised us as they felt squidgy so we thought they would have little seeds but it actually had a stone!

Here are some pictures of us investigating the seeds in fruit.

We then, of course, tasted our fruit!

Jumping gymnastics!

This half term in gymnastics we are looking at different ways of moving including, jumps and rolls. Last week we were trying out different rolls including a forwards roll, sausage roll and then a teddy bear roll.

This week we are working at moving from a jump into a roll.

By Christmas we will have joined a movement (hopping, skipping, tip-toeing) a jump and a roll together to create a fluid piece of gym.

Our theme is 'Father Christmas tip-toeing across the rooftops to deliver presents!'

Here are some pictures of us doing gymnastics.

Dissecting plants!

In Science we are learning about plants. Today we got the chance to dissect plants and have a closer look at what we found inside.

We carefully used our hands to pull back petals and stems then used a magnifying glass to see what we could find.  Some of us found tiny little bulbs inside and others found that there was lots of water in the stems of the plants.

Below are some pictures of us investigating plants.

Next week we will be setting up a fair test that we can observe over time. So, remember to check back!
